Nature & the Environment

It never fails to amaze me, the number of cottage owners who really seem to miss the point of owning a country property.  They appear to want nothing more than a suburban landscape on a rural lot, complete with open vistas and manicured lawns.  Even most cottage-oriented magazines and shows seem to emphasize a cultivated style over natural surroundings, to the detriment of both man and beast.

An important tenet of Cottagesmithing is to integrate all facets of cottaging into the environment as gently as possible.  Obviously, some compromises cannot be reasonably avoided, but only by understanding the potential consequences of our cottage-scaping actions can we make informed decisions.
